The Minister of Finance to Launch Canada Retail Debt Agency

Finance Minister Paul Martin will be in Toronto to officially launch the Canada Retail Debt Agency (CRDA) on Thursday, September 19, 1996.

As part of the February 1995 budget, the government announced a new retail debt program that would provide individual Canadians with better access to Government of Canada securities. The CRDA was subsequently established in August 1995 as a Special Operating Agency in the Department of Finance to revitalize the federal government's retail debt program, reverse the declining trend in retail holdings of federal securities, and increase the retail share of the Government of Canada's debt.

Minister Martin and CRDA founding President, Jacqueline Orange, will be on hand to discuss the Agency's plans and progress to date, including unveiling a new name that better reflects its mandate.

The event will also highlight the 50th anniversary of Canada Savings Bonds.

The launch will be held at the Toronto Historical Board at 205 Yonge Street (between Queen Street and Shuter Street) from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
