Ottawa, December 11, 1996 Minister of Finance Announces Appointments to Canadian International Trade TribunalRelated document: Finance Minister Paul Martin today announced the appointment of Dr. Patricia M. Close to the position of Vice-Chair of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) and the re-appointment of Mr. Arthur Trudeau as a temporary member. Dr. Close is currently Director of the Tariffs Division at the Department of Finance. She received a Bachelor's degree from McGill University, an M.A. in political science from the University of Western Ontario and a Ph.D. in political science from Carleton University. Dr. Close has held various senior positions with Natural Resources Canada, Finance Canada, the Bank of Montreal and Petro-Canada International Assistance Corporation on executive interchanges. Mr. Trudeau has been a member of the Tribunal since 1989 and has served as Vice-Chair since 1992. "The experience and expertise Patricia Close has aquired as head of the Tariffs Division during the past six years will be a tremendous asset to her in her new position as Vice-Chair of the Tribunal," Mr. Martin said. The CITT is an administrative tribunal operating within Canada's trade remedies system. The Canadian International Trade Tribunal Act provides for the appointment by Governor in Council of up to nine members comprising of a Chairman, two Vice-Chairs and six members. The appointments will take effect January 1, 1997.
