Minister Baird Appoints Two Candidates to the Board of the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation

October 12, 2006

Ottawa - The Honourable John Baird, President of the Treasury Board of Canada, announced today the appointment of Susan Dabarno and Jack Cockwell to the Board of the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation for a three-year term.

"I am pleased that Susan and Jack are joining the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation," said Minister Baird, federal minister responsible for the Toronto waterfront. "I am sure their leadership will benefit the Toronto waterfront. Canada's New Government is committed to making this initiative a model of accountable regional development, and these appointments will help us achieve that goal."

Susan Dabarno is President of Richardson Partners Financial Limited. She had previously served as President and COO, Merrill Lynch Canada. Ms. Dabarno has an extensive background in financial management and accounting, and brings strong management skills to the Board. She said being appointed was wonderful news. "I am pleased to be able to contribute to a project that is so vital to the future of Toronto. I look forward to working with other board members to drive this project forward and create a waterfront that makes all Torontonians proud," said Ms. Dabarno.

Jack Cockwell has served as a director of Brookfield Asset Management since September 1979. Mr. Cockwell is a highly respected member of the Toronto community and is experienced in the public sector as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Ontario Museum. He is also Group Chairman of Brookfield, a director of the C.D. Howe Institute and director of Astral Media Inc. Mr. Cockwell said, "The Toronto Waterfront is undergoing a remarkable renaissance, and I am proud to have the opportunity be a part of such an incredible initiative."

The governments of Canada, Ontario and Toronto established the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation (TWRC) in 2001 to lead the renewal of Toronto's central waterfront, and jointly committed $1.5 billion in funding.
