How to Obtain Department of Finance Publications

Electronic Documents (On-Line Via the Internet)

Documents Available in Two Formats

  • All documents will be available at http://www.fin.gc.ca/ in hypertext (.HTML) and Adobe Acrobat (.PDF) formats.
  • The Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to access documents in .PDF format. It can be downloaded free from the Adobe website at http://www.adobe.com/. Instructions on how to download and install the Reader and how to print and save a .PDF document are available at http://www.fin.gc.ca/admin/adobe.html.
  • Internet users should familiarize themselves with the Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 3 or better) by downloading it from the Adobe home page (http://www.adobe.com/).

Basic System Requirements

Windows: World Wide Web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer – version 3.0 or better,* Netscape – version 3.0 or better,* etc.) that supports "forms"; a 14.4 kbps modem or better; Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 3 or better) for Windows; 386 personal computer or better; Microsoft Windows 3.x, 9x or NT 3.5 or better; 4 MB applications RAM.

Macintosh: World Wide Web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer – version 3.0 or better,* Netscape – version 3.0 or better,* etc.) that supports "forms"; a 14.4 kbps modem or better; Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 3 or better) for Macintosh; Macintosh with 68020 or better processor or PowerPC, Apple system Software 7.0 or better; 2 MB of application RAM (3.5 MB of application RAM for PowerPC version).

* Version 4 recommended.

Budget Documents

Upon Release – Ottawa Only

  • Budget documents are available immediately upon release at 300 Laurier Avenue West (main lobby) for subscribers who have prepaid or reserved in advance. Official coloured receipts must be submitted to obtain copies.  Those who have not prepaid may purchase documents in the same lobby.
  • The Budget Speech and The Budget in Brief are free (limit of one per person).

Day After Release – Across Canada

  • Budget documents are available the day after release at selected Canada Revenue Agency offices for those who have prepaid or reserved in advance. Official coloured receipts must be submitted to obtain copies.
  • The Budget Speech and The Budget in Brief are free (limit of one per person).

Other Publications

  • All other printed documents are distributed by mail upon release.
