Corporate Priorities for the Public Service of Canada 2002-03 including the Official Languages Component

Our Branch provides strategic orientation and coordination in support of the Official Languages Program in federal organizations.

Under the Official Languages Act, our mandate covers service to the public, language of work, and the participation of English-speaking and French-speaking Canadians in federal organizations.

To carry out its responsibilities for the program, Official Languages Branch develops and communicates policies and programs related to official languages and provides interpretations and support as required. It establishes the management framework within which federal organizations discharge their legislated responsibilities. It develops program management tools and systems and promotes their implementation and use by federal organizations. It determines information needs and interprets related statistics. Finally, it monitors the effective implementation of the program, in consultation with federal organizations and prepares the Treasury Board President's annual report to Parliament.
