Mandate
The goal of the committee is to build capacity within departments, agencies, and the
Employment Equity Division at Treasury Board Secretariat, to implement and sustain
Employment Equity legislation, principles and practices. The committee will achieve this
goal by:
- Identifying problem areas and recommending solutions in the implementation of Employment
Equity in departments and agencies with respect to Focussing on horizontal issues, and
exchanging best practices, in areas such as recruitment, retention, career development and
corporate culture as they pertain to the designated groups;
- Acting as a catalyst for strategic development and implementation of Employment Equity
initiatives within departments and agencies;
- Communicating important issues and priority areas to their departmental senior
management committees, to appropriate committees and task forces, and to the Employment
Equity Division of Treasury Board Secretariat.
Membership
- The committee is composed of federal public servants at the executive level or
equivalent, representing departments and agencies, and designated and non-designated
groups. Members are agents of change, and able to influence their organizations to action.
- The committee is chaired by the Director of Partnership and Development,
Employment Equity Division, Treasury Board Secretariat and by the
Director General, Employment Equity & Diversity, Staffing &
Recruitment Programs, Public Service Commission.
Process
- The committee meets a six times per year, as
determined by the chairs and in consultation with members, to review priority issues and to
recommend appropriate action in department and agencies.
