The Government of Canada has developed a whole of government framework to help
parliamentarians and Canadians locate information of interest to them on federal
government policies, programs and activities. The framework also helps the government
track its contribution to Canada's performance as a nation. The framework is structured
to take the reader from very broad policy areas to detailed
individual departmental information.
The broad policy areas are:
This framework provides parliamentarians and Canadians with a whole of
government perspective from which to view the plans, results and resources reported in
departmental and agency planning and performance reports, as well as in the Annual Report to
Parliament on Crown Corporations and Other Corporate Interests of Canada.
Departments, agencies and Crown corporations, which have strategic outcomes that contribute to the
four broad policy areas are grouped into 13 outcomes areas.
An organization's strategic outcome is the long-term and enduring benefit to Canadians that stems from a department or agency's mandate, vision and efforts. It represents the difference a department or agency wants to make for Canadians.
