Department of Finance Launches Consultation on Private Defined Benefit Pension Plans

Related documents:

The Department of Finance today launched an online consultation on rules governing defined benefit pension plans registered under the federal Pension Benefits Standards Act, 1985. The consultation is open to anyone interested in participating, and submissions will be received until September 15, 2005.

As part of this web-based initiative, the Department is releasing a discussion paper entitled Strengthening the Legislative and Regulatory Framework for Defined Benefit Pension Plans Registered under the Pension Benefits Standards Act, 1985. The paper outlines a number of key questions for consideration, with the aim of maintaining a balance between the interests and incentives of private sector plan sponsors and plan members.

Copies of the discussion paper can be found on the Department of Finance website at www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult_e.html. Submissions for the consultation initiative can be made via e-mail at pension@fin.gc.ca. In the interest of greater transparency, comments received will be made available on the Department’s website with the consent of submitting parties.
