Official Languages Policy Review

  • The project is aimed at:

    • reducing the number and enhancing the relevance of policy instruments and reports;

    • relating policies and reporting to priorities and results;

    • improving the accessibility of policy instruments and targeting them to appropriate audiences and

    • restructuring, simplifying, reducing the quantity and modernizing the policies.

  • The existing policies are reorganized in order to come up with a policy suite that is integrated, easy to understand and based on values.

  • The new policies reinforce monitoring and clearly establish the roles and responsibilities of departments and federal institutions.

  • The review:

    • completed phase I which relates to the Policy on Language of Work and the Policy on Official Languages for Human Resources Management;

    • will focus, in its phase II, on the policies on services and communications with the public, in 2004-2005;

    • aims to put forth the Official Languages Act's principles and characteristics and integrates values, including respect and

    • includes a Web-based policy dissemination strategy to improve access.
