Continuing Care
The Continuing Care branch (1-800-225-7225) serves people who
need ongoing care outside of hospital, either on a long-term or
short-term basis. Its services include Home Care, Long Term Care,
and Protection for Vulnerable Adults. |

Chief Medical Officer of Health
The Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health (OCMOH) is responsible for maintaining or enhancing public health standards, ensuring that major health issues and threats to the health of Nova Scotians are addressed, and communicating health information in an appropriate and timely manner. The OCMOH site includes information on West Nile virus, SARS, Lyme disease, rabies, and a variety of other public health topics. It also includes contact information for the province's Medical Officers of Health. |

Health Services
Emergency Health Services Nova Scotia (EHS), is responsible for
the continual development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
of pre-hospital emergency health services in the Province. |

Looking for a Family Doctor?
The Nova Scotia Department of Health now has an online directory
listing physicians within the province who are taking new patients.
This service is in addition to the help line, 902-424-3047. This
program covers only family physicians as specialists are on a
referral basis only. |

Public Health - Health Promotion
Publications
The Nova Scotia Department of Health now has a number of publications
available online on topics ranging from dental health to violence
prevention. Please take some time to review the materials available,
and be sure to tell family and friends about these health promotion
publications. |

Mental Health Services
Nova Scotians of all ages have access to mental health services.
Provincial programs and services based on community need are delivered
by each of the nine district health authorities and the IWK Health
Centre. The Department of Health establishes priorities and standards
and ensures fair and equitable access to mental health care. |

Nova
Scotia Health Card
Nova Scotia's health insurance programs are designated to provide
eligible residents with coverage for medically required hospital,
medical, dental and optometric services with some restrictions.
Nova Scotians who are eligible for health insurance should have
a Nova Scotia Health Card. This site includes answers to some
of the most frequently asked questions about the Nova Scotia Health
Card. |

Nova Scotia Pharmacare
The Nova Scotia Department of Health now has information on-line
regarding the provincial drug programs and funding extended to
Nova Scotians. The programs and funding (commonly referred to
as Pharmacare) include the Seniors' Pharmacare Program, the Community
Services Pharmacare Programs, Drug Assistance for Cancer Patients,
and Multiple Sclerosis drug funding. The Pharmacare web site also
includes an on-line version of the Nova Scotia Formulary to determine
if a drug is a benefit under the provincial drug programs, information
on the Atlantic Common Drug Review, and information on the Drug
Evaluation of Nova Scotia (DEANS). |

Senior
Citizens' Secretariat
The Senior Citizens' Secretariat works with seniors and their
organizations on programs, services and activities that are important
to their quality of life. As of April 1, 2000 the chair of the
Secretariat was transferred to the Minister of Health. The web
site of the Secretariat now includes the on-line version of Programs
for Seniors which explains the various programs and services available
that seniors may be entitled to or interested in.

Party Liability
The role of the Third Party Liability Section is to recover the
cost of health care and medical services provided to Nova Scotia
residents who are injured due to the negligence, wrongful act
or omission of a third party. |
