The Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat is pleased to welcome you to their Privacy Impact Assessment
(PIA) e-learning tool. For any Government of Canada employees interested in learning more about privacy or PIAs and how to complete them, this
tool will be of great interest.
There are two courses included in this tool—the Overview and the Manage and Monitor course. As well, TBS has developed a PIA Assistant to help you complete Preliminary PIAs and full PIAs.
Do you know how to complete a Preliminary PIA? How about a full PIA? Or do you even know which type of PIA to complete? If you aren't sure of your answers for any of these questions, use the PIA Assistant developed by TBS.
If you don't know what's required, the Assistant has a series of questions to answer and many of these questions have additional notes and tips to consider. Once you answer the questions, you'll be able to tell whether or not you need to complete a PIA and what type of PIA to complete.
If you need to complete a PPIA or a PIA you can select your path and the Assistant will 'walk you through' the entire process step by step. Not only will you get tips on how to write the Report's Executive Summary or how to use the Document Change Control Table, but you'll also be able to go through either Questionnaire A or B and read some important tips and pointers that will help you complete the Questionnaire. Throughout the Assistant you'll also be able to link directly to such things as the Privacy Act, PIPEDA and even definitions of key terminology.
If you haven't completed a PIA before or even if you have and simply want to learn more, use the PIA Assistant. It will guide you through the process, answer your questions and help you write an effective and useful Report.
