On January 24th, in the
presence of over 250 managers and employees, Heritage Canada, in
partnership with Health Canada, launched a new manager's guide entitled:
« The Power is People » —
A guide for Managers on how to Recruit, Retain and Promote Women and
Aboriginal Peoples. This brochure is available on both departments' websites.
As a result of an Inclusiveness
Workshop, with the theme of Inclusiveness: From Planning to Action held in
February 2001, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) has prepared an
Inclusiveness Tool Kit. This event, funded jointly by AAFC and the
Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) under the EE Intervention Fund of the
Employment Equity Positive Measures Program (EEPMP), was planned and
organised by representatives of AAFC's EE Advisory Committees.

Updates
NCVM
Effective January 2, 2002, Ms.
Jacqueline Edwards assumed the position of President of the National
Council of Visible Minorities (NCVM) in the federal Public Service,
replacing Mr. Awad Loubani who continues to support the work of the
Council as Past President.
NCVM anticipates releasing
the report from Symposium 2001 in the coming weeks.
EE and Diversity Award
The call for nominations for the
Employment Equity and Diversity Award has been sent out to departments.

Employment Equity Act Review
The Standing Committee on Human
Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities has
commenced its review of the Employment Equity Act.
Representatives of the CHRC and HRDC (Labour) have already appeared
before the committee. The Secretary of the Treasury Board and the
President of the Public Service Commission are scheduled to appear
together on January 29, 2002 to discuss the operation of the Act within
the federal Public Service."

Canadians will celebrate International
Women's Week (IWW) from March 3 to March 9, 2002, with the highlight
being International Women's Day (IWD) on March 8. The Canadian
theme for this year's IWD/IWW is "Working in Solidarity: Women, Human
Rights and Peace." Status
of Women Canada is currently producing an Organiser's Tool Kit
(02-G-002) and a poster (02-G-001) which will be available for
distribution in early February. You can order your own copies on line
