* As mentioned in the Voluntary Sector Initiative (VSI) overview, the initiative ended as of March 2005. Although the Government of Canada is demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the work begun by the VSI, the work is no longer horizontal and each department will be working individually towards the achievement of their outcomes . Individual department's planned results will be reported in their DPRs. The Community Awareness Project is the only remaining VSI funded project being carried out by Social Development Canada now Human Resources and Social Development.

Non-Profit and Voluntary Affairs

Planned Actual

1. To implement consistent and coherent funding practices.
2. To ensure that voluntary sector organizations have more opportunities to be involved at every stage of the public policy dialogue process.
3. To develop an ongoing instrument for reporting on results achieved on joint priorities.
4. To ensure that Government policy development is informed by solid knowledge about the voluntary sector.
5. To develop more flexible financing arrangements in the Government of Canada.
6. To ensure that both sectors understand the impact and value of the VSI investment.
7. To encourage all levels of the voluntary sector to make use of the products of the Voluntary Sector Initiative.

Community Awareness Project

1. To increase public awareness and understanding about the non-profit and voluntary sector and the contribution this sector makes to the economic and social fabric of Canadian society.
2. To encourage dialogue among non-profit and voluntary sector organizations.

Canada Volunteerism Initiative

$0.15 M (ongoing)  
To play an active leadership role in the governance and coordination mechanism of the Initiative.

Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating

Planned Actual
$0  
The CSGVP is funded on a 3-year cycle. On an ongoing basis, beginning in 2005-06, Social Development Canada will receive total resources of $.9 M per cycle. These funds will be used to manage a program of further analysis and dissemination of the findings.

Results will be reported when DPR 2005-2006 is tabled.

Canadian Heritage

Canada Volunteerism Initiative

Planned Actual
$8.75 M  
1. To establish volunteer networks in each province and territory.
2. To support research and pilot projects.
3. To conduct promotional, recognition, awareness and outreach campaigns.
4. To promote an ongoing dialogue among voluntary, public and private sectors and individuals about the role of volunteerism.
This work is being carried out the Department of Social Development Canada.

Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating

Planned Actual
$0.6 M  
The CSGVP is funded on a 3-year cycle. For 2005-06 and ongoing, Statistics Canada receives a total of $3.9 M per cycle for this program.

To study and redesign the National Survey of Giving Volunteering and Participating (NSGVP), and to implement the new expanded Canada Survey of Giving Volunteering and Participating (CSGVP) program.

Results will be reported when DPR 2005-2006 is tabled.

Satellite Account of Nonprofit Institutions and Volunteering

To continue gathering data for the Satellite Account and to integrate the process into the ongoing preparation of the System of National Accounts.
