Letter to Deputy Minister - Head of AgencyJun 01 2000 Dear, In February 1998, Treasury Board Ministers made nine decisions focused on strengthening federal identity, presence and visibility. One of these decisions directed to the Treasury Board Secretariat to develop, in consultation with departments and agencies, a common look and feel for all federal Internet and Intranet sites and electronic networks. In response, an inter-departmental Working Group was established in June 1998. The Working Group completed its work and tabled a Report in January 2000 that outlined recommendations for consideration by TBS. These recommendations have been assessed in light of advice from key inter-departmental committees involved in the governance and guidance of the Government On-Line initiative (GOL), including the IM/IT Management Board (IMB) , the Electronic Service Delivery (ESD) Committee, and the Architecture Review Board (ARB). On May 4, 2000 the Treasury Board approved the Common Look and Feel Standards and Guidelines for Government of Canada Internet sites that are attached to this correspondence. Government institutions identified in Schedule 1, 1.1 and 2 of the Financial Administration Act are to design and build new Internet Web sites in accordance with the approved standards, commencing immediately. Plans to upgrade existing Internet sites to conform to the standards are to be developed and shared with the Treasury Board Secretariat by December 31, 2000. Migration to the common look and feel standards for these sites is to be completed by December 31, 2002. The twenty-eight core Government On-Line departments should provide their plans to the TBS GOL Project Office. All other institutions should provide their plans to the Director, Information Policy Division, Chief Information Officer Branch, Treasury Board Secretariat. TBS will monitor progress for compliance with the standards. If your officials require more information they may contact Ian Sinclair, Director, Information Policy Division at 957-2478. A copy in French of this letter is enclosed for the convenience of your French-speaking officers. Yours sincerely, Frank Claydon |
