Purpose / Mission,

The purpose of the GOC FAP is to provide leadership, co-ordination, and broad direction in the planning, development, maintenance and use of a government-wide architecture for IM/IT infrastructure; comprised of the subset of the departmental infrastructure domains that are common or shared across government; in support of the government's renewal objectives and its service delivery agenda.

The enterprise-wide architecture to be implemented by the GOC FAP is a coherent collection of policies, standards, guidelines, and principles that will guide and direct the acquisition, implementation and management of IT resources comprising an adaptive government-wide IM/IT infrastructure. As such, the architecture becomes a critical component of the strategic planning process and will be integrated within the government's overall IT and business planning processes.

The conceptual architecture will serve as a foundation on which the GOC SII can build an adaptive government-wide IM/IT infrastructure. It provides high level guidance, linking the business drivers and architectural requirements with the underlying technological components to meet the vision of the GOC Federated Architecture. Using a business-driven, top-down architecture process, GOC FAP architecture will provide the base foundation and framework to plan, design, co-ordinate, implement, and manage the Government's strategic IM/IT infrastructure.
