Information Technology Security
This site is intended to provide insight into the Chief Information Officer
Branch's work on information technology security projects and issues. It
is also intended to serve as a "one-stop-shop" for Treasury Board
Secretariat -approved ITS standards. Here you will find information on the
standards development process, on current and proposed standards, and links to
other useful resources.
Within TBS, CIOB is responsible for the approval and promulgation of all
standards pertaining to information technology, which includes information
technology security. The latter standards are formulated to support the
Government Security Policy. CIOB's Director General, Infrastructure, Architecture and Security
Division, is the
focal point for the coordination of information technology security standards
work being undertaken within the Government of Canada.
Though CIOB has in-house technical expertise, the breadth of information
technology security is such that it could not accomplish its mandate without the
help of other departments. By virtue of insights gained through their
online delivery of services, standards-related expertise can be found throughout
the Government of Canada. The renewed Treasury Board Information
Technology Standards (TBITS) process recognizes this and provides many
opportunities for departments to either propose or modify standards.
However, CIOB looks most often to a key group of agencies for advice and
technical expertise on information technology security. These lead
