Call for Nominations for the 2003 Agatha Bystram Award for Leadership in Information
Management
Established by the Council of Federal Libraries (CFL) in 1995 to honour
the contribution of Agatha Bystram (1934-1994), a highly respected pioneer
in the management of federal information resources, this award recognizes
excellence in the field of information management. Nominees must be federal
government employees.
Close of nominations: September 5, 2003.
Award presentation: CFL Fall Seminar, November 3, 2003.

Treasury Board Secretariat
The Government of Canada (GoC) Metadata Framework establishes a
strategy for the development of metadata within the GoC. The Framework shows
the relationship between the generic international standard adopted by the
GoC (the Dublin Core) and other extensions for specific subject domains or
purposes.

2nd Edition - May 2003
Council of Federal Libraries (CFL) - Metadata Action Team
Prepared by the Ad Hoc Committee of Federal Metadata Experts, Metadata
Action Team of the CFL, the new guide updates the 1 st edition
entitled Common Look and Feel Metadata Implementation Guides (September 2002).
These guides offer practical assistance to those responsible for creating
and managing metadata content for federal government Web pages in accordance
with the Common Look and Feel standard. They explain the tasks to be
performed, demonstrate how the required information should be created and
direct readers to other resources.

Metadata Training
Treasury Board Secretariat
A training package is now available to assist instructors in providing
metadata training in their departments. The package consists of three
components: 1) a trainers' manual that provides suggestions and
instructions on how to teach the course and engage the participants; 2) a
presentation that instructors can use during their training sessions; 3) a
participant workbook that can be used as a reference guide by participants
during and after the session. Trainers are encouraged to modify these
components to suit the needs of their audience.

Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto
The University of Toronto's Faculty of Information Studies offers a wide
range of practical workshops for information professionals and others
interested in information issues or in learning new information
technologies. Topics covered include records management, e-business
management, advanced web search strategies, information design, intranet
construction, content management and project management.
Courses are offered in Toronto and Ottawa, as well as online.
