Functional Communities Portal
Government of Canada
The portal is for and about the people who work in these functional communities, who share common work purposes, functions, and professional interests across the Government of Canada. Most public servants are members of at least one functional community. The Web portal was launched on April 2, 2003 at the First Annual Retreat of the Coordinating Committee of Functional Communities, which is made up of the Heads of the Functional Community secretariats and representatives from the Public Service Commission, Training and Development Canada, and the Canadian Centre for Management Development.

Government of Canada Type Scheme
Government On-Line Metadata Working Group
The Government of Canada <dc.type> type Scheme is to be used as a source of standardized terminology for the indexing and retrieval of resources by type. Its main function is to standardize the external form and meaning of index terms, thus ensuring that a particular resource type will always be represented in the same way in the index.

Guidelines for Search Services on Web Sites
GoC Centre of Expertise for Search
This document is intended for content producers, system administrators and business managers. It attempts to document best practices for managing search engines, recognizing that the quality of the search result depends on a number of factors, including the way the content is written, how Web sites are structured, the instructions given to Web crawlers, and monitoring of comments from end users.

XML (Extensible Markup Language) New IMRC section
XML was developed and is maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). XML describes the structure and content of information, allowing it to be widely accessed and shared regardless of the software application used to create it.
