The Canadian Food Safety and Quality Program

The Canadian Food Safety and Quality Program will maintain and enhance Canada's reputation as a producer of safe, high-quality food products. It is a key part of the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Agricultural Policy Framework - a five year plan to help the agriculture and agri-food sector manage its risks and meet the demands of the marketplace in order to be more competitive and profitable. Fostering confidence in the safety and quality of Canadian food is recognized as critical in ensuring the strength of the agriculture and agri-food sector over the long term.

The Canadian Food Safety and Quality Program has three components:

• The Systems Development Component provides industry with funding to develop food safety, food quality, and traceability systems
• The On-Farm Implementation Component supports producers in implementing standardized food safety systems on their farms
• The Food Safety Initiative Component supports provincial and regional food safety implementation and outreach activities
