Making the Link between FIS and Results for Canadians
Just as the roots of a tree provide a solid foundation for growth, FIS will provide
a solid underpinning for Modern Comptrollership, and contribute to realizing
Results for Canadians.
The Financial Information Strategy (FIS)
is putting in place the tools, including people,
policies and systems to produce better
financial information and better financial
analysis to aid in the decision-making
process, with the ultimate goal of improving
government's performance in the
management of resources.
The information generated by FIS will
be essential to achieving Modern
Comptrollership. In addition to
its contributions to making
Modern Comptrollership possible, the
information generated by FIS will assist
in Improved Reporting to Parliament.
Modern Comptrollership
is concerned with the sound management
of resources with a focus on results,
emphasizing the need to integrate
performance information, both financial
and non-financial, for more effective
decision making. Its components are:
Leadership, People, Values and Ethics,
Performance Information, Risk
Management, Stewardship, and
Accountability.
Of these, Performance Information,
Stewardship, Accountability, and, to a
degree, Mature Risk Management rely
directly on information flowing from FIS.
Modern Comptrollership, in turn, is a key
ingredient of Results for Canadians.
Results for Canadians
is the management framework for the
Government of Canada and an agenda
for change, setting out the government's
commitments and how they will be met.
Priority initiatives are: Citizen centred
Service Delivery, Government On-Line,
Modern Comptrollership, Improved
Reporting to Parliament, Program Integrity,
and Developing an Exemplary Workplace.
The ultimate goal of Results for
Canadians is to improve service and
accountability to the Canadian people.
