Information, Privacy and Security Policy
The Chief Information Officer Branch (CIOB) is responsible
for modernizing and maintaining federal information management and technology
policies and guidelines. The exponential and unprecedented growth of technology
in the last two decades of this century has necessitated that government policy
and legislation is renewed to reflect these changes.
The government information policy framework facilitates the
efficient, effective and strategic use of government information and enabling
technologies in a manner that supports the government agenda - working
collaboratively, focusing on citizens, and improving service delivery. The
information policy framework serves citizens by better acknowledging the role of
IT/IM in the design, development and delivery of government services.
These information policies and guidelines represent a suite
of tools to guide departments in the implementation of government programs and
responsibilities that are information-based and technology-enabled.
Treasury Board Ministers must approve each policy. Most
policies designate the Deputy Minister or the Head of Agency as responsible and
accountable for ensuring the day-to-day implementation of Treasury Board Policy
in each department and agency.
