Government-wide Chart of Accounts for Canada

This site provides information for government departments & agencies regarding the government-wide Chart of Accounts (COA).

The COA provides the framework for identifying, aggregating and reporting financial transactions to satisfy the government's corporate information requirements. The COA contains the accounts and codes for all the fields that comprise the government-wide coding block. These accounts and codes are to be used by departments in their monthly trial balances that are transmitted to the Central Financial Management Reporting System (CFMRS).

The responsibility for the government-wide Chart of Accounts for Canada is shared between the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) and the Receiver General for Canada (RG).

The Treasury Board Secretariat's responsibility with respect to the COA, focuses primarily on the policy issues and the structure of the government-wide coding block.

The Receiver General for Canada's responsibility, with respect to the COA includes maintaining the accounts and codes as well as publishing the COA.

Government of Canada employees can click HERE to access the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and the Information Request Form (IRF).
