The program consists in the investigation and resolution of complaints from both individual aboriginal offenders and aboriginal offender groups, such as Native Brotherhoods and Sisterhoods. The program also consists of providing leadership on aboriginal offender issues, in close cooperation with the other public and private organizations interested in aboriginal corrections.
Program Objective
The program's objective is to provide specialized investigation services to the aboriginal offender population. Another objective of the program is the provision of leadership and advice, with a view of bettering aboriginal corrections.
Key Activities, Fiscal Year 2004-05
Interviews with individual aboriginal offenders. Meetings with aboriginal inmate groups and CSC staff, including native liaison officers and Elders. Meetings/exchanges with other public and private stakeholders in the field of aboriginal corrections.

OCI interventions with and recommendations to the Correctional Service of Canada regarding individual and systemic aboriginal offender issues. OCI reviews of Section 81 and 84 Agreements.
