Shelter Enhancement Program
(Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation)

Assists in repairing, rehabilitating and improving existing shelters for women and their children, youth and men who are victims of family violence; and in acquiring or building new shelters and second-stage housing where needed. Delivery of this program is coordinated with INAC who provide a Ministerial Loan Guarantee to support this funding. The financial assistance is in the form of a forgivable loan.

Provide emergency shelter to Aboriginal people in need.

The agreements are administered by the CMHC Business Centres or by Provincial/Territorial governments where a Social Housing Agreement has been signed. Subject to contractual commitments for new and existing business, and provincial agreements to March 31, 2007.
