Bank of Canada bank note auction

In November 1999, the Bank of Canada auctioned off surplus bank note material to collectors. A subsequent auction was held in November 2000. In the 1999 auction, specimen bank notes of earlier series and low-serial-number notes from the 1969-1979 series were offered. In 2000, complete sets of specimen notes and low-serial-number notes from the 1986-1991 Birds of Canada series were offered.

These auctions generated considerable interest among collectors and the general public, and lots sold well above their expected values.
