Teenaged Army Cadet Piper Carries Historic Bagpipes at Ceremony

Pipe Major MacDonald carries pipes up the steps of the LegislatureSixteen-year old army cadet Joshua MacDonald, Cadet Pipe Major of the 2136 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (Princess Mary’s) Pipes and Drums of Victoria carried the pipes of Victoria Cross winner James Richardson when they were repatriated to Canada in a ceremony at the B.C. Legislature at noon today. This year marks the 90 th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme where Piper James Richardson of Chilliwack was awarded the Victoria Cross posthumously for his actions in piping his company of the 16 th (Canadian Scottish) Battalion “over the top” at a crucial moment in October 1916.     

 
Navy To Accept First of Eight New Training Craft

CPO2 Berben of 220 RCSCC is on hand for the unveiling of a kisby ring for ORCAPetty Officer Cadet 1st Class Nicolas Berben of 220 RCSCC "Admiral Budge" representing Sea Cadets is joined by a member of the Naval Reserve and a Junior Officer from the Naval Officer Training Centre to unveil a kisby ring for ORCA, the first of eight Patrol Craft Training to be delivered to the Canadian Navy in the next two years. The ships will replace the 50 year old YAG training vessels that have been the primary training platform for the Canadian Navy and used to provide an at sea experience for sea cadets.     
 
Maj David Kerr Receives Highest Award from the BC Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada

Maj Kerr received Certificate of Honour from Mrs. Penny DoernMajor David Kerr recieves the Certificate of Honour from the B.C. Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada, Nov. 7 in Penticton from Mrs.Penny Doern, Chairperson for the Okanagan Wing, representing the BC Provincial Committee and Robert Burchinshaw, a Governor of the Air Cadet League of Canada. The award is the highest honour bestowed by the BC Provincial Committee of the Air Cadet League of Canada. Maj. Kerr was recognized for this award because of his many years of involvement with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets in British Columbia.  Maj. Kerr, was an Air Cadet with 259 Panther Squadron in Penticton, B.C. from 1971 to 1975. He served several years as a Civilian instructor before enrolling in the Canadian Forces Cadet Instructors Cadre in 1987. He served in various Squadron positions in the Okanagan, including Commanding Officer of three different Squadrons.  In 2003 Maj. Kerr was appointed to the position of Area Cadet Instructor Cadre Officer (ACICO) and became the senior Officer responsible for military matters for the eight Okanagan Wing Squadrons.  Maj. Kerr was cited for using his vast experience and strong communication skills while serving as a valuable and reputable military personnel resource for the Air Cadet Organization in British Columbia.
 
Sea Army and Air Cadets Receive Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Cadets Receive Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Government HouseFive members of the Sea, Army and Air Cadets, are among 88 young people from across B.C. who were invited to Government House on Saturday, 4 Nov to receive the insignia and certificate of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award from the Lieutenant Governor. Her Honour, Iona Campagnolo will present the awards.
