Community Relations

AECL believes in the social, economic and environmental benefits of nuclear technology, and we value strong relationships with the members of our surrounding communities.

Involving Our Communities - Information Sessions
AECL works hard to engage our stakeholders in discussion and the active promotion of all theCR_withkids benefits of nuclear energy. One of our most important tools is our accessibility, demonstrated regularly at our many Public Information Sessions and Community Speaking engagements.

Comprehensive public information and consultation programs help to keep both communities and stakeholders informed and provide a forum for AECL to solicit input on plans and projects. For example, during the past year a number of community open houses were held, and a wide variety of information was distributed in order to keep local residents and other stakeholders informed about a Fuel Packaging and Storage Project at Chalk River Laboratories. Likewise, community meetings with environmentally focused groups and associations provided valuable input to the Ecological Effects Review of the Chalk River Laboratories.

Helping our Communities - Reaching Out
AECL employees are also committed to making a difference in the world around them, as evidenced by the enthusiasm and generosity surrounding the yearly United Way Campaign. Collectively as a corporation and individually at the various sites, employees work to support and participate in a number of charitable and community fundraisers.
