On a regular basis, CDIC conducts reviews to update the by-laws it administers. CDIC takes a consultative approach to these reviews. At each stage of the review process, CDIC consults with its membership, with trade associations, regulators and supervisors and with other interested parties. Comments are welcome.

Differential Premiums By-law

CDIC's Differential Premiums By-law establishes a system for classifying member institutions into different categories for annual premium rate purposes. CDIC undertakes comprehensive reviews of its by-laws from time to time. While annual reviews of the By-law have resulted in a number of amendments, the comprehensive review is intended to ensure that, in its entirety, the By-law remains up-to-date and relevant and supports the achievement of the goals initially set. This document outlines the results of our review and describes the elements that we intend to change.

Deposit Insurance Information By-law

The Deposit Insurance Information By-law was introduced in 1996 to govern statements made by financial institutions about their standing as a CDIC member institution and about the eligibility of certain deposits for deposit insurance. The 2003 review is focused on matters that could enhance depositor awareness of deposit insurance eligibility and its limitations. Enhanced awareness about deposit insurance information will assist depositors in making better-informed investment decisions. CDIC is seeking a balance between the strategies of providing information to depositors itself and/or requiring that its members provide more information to their depositors.
