HOW WE ACQUIRE PROPERTIES

Canada Lands acquires its properties from Government of Canada departments and agencies that have declared them surplus to their needs.

Departments dispose of their surplus properties in accordance with the Government of Canada's Treasury Board Policy on the Disposal of Surplus Real Property, and other real property policies.

Properties that are no longer required by departments follow either the policy's routine disposal process or its strategic disposal process. Properties following the strategic disposal process are transferred to Canada Lands, due to their requirement for significant expertise to address any number of real estate challenges.
