AECL and Canada are leaders in high-level nuclear waste management expertise. AECL has more than 50 years’ experience in waste management, including 20 years’ experience resulting from managing Canada’s Nuclear Fuel Waste Management Program and developing a waste disposal concept. This expertise has been shared through a wide range of commercial and collaborative international programs with organizations in the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Hungary, Japan, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and the USA. AECL has also developed the MACSTOR dry used fuel storage system, which can accommodate all the used fuel generated in a reactor’s operating life.
