AECL's commercial business division designs, markets and manages the construction of nuclear power reactors and research reactors at home and abroad, as well as supplying reactor services to global customers, including innovative nuclear products, design and engineering services, construction management, major reactor refurbishment services, and waste and decommissioning services.

AECL also produces a large fraction of the world's supply of medical radioisotopes on behalf of MDS Nordion of Ottawa, Ontario, in its National Research Universal (NRU) reactor at Chalk River Laboratories. This versatile reactor also provides neutron beam facilities to the National Research Council for advanced materials research.
