Point Lepreau Refurbishment Project

Point Lepreau RefurbishmentOn July 29, 2005, the New Brunswick government announced that it was proceeding with the refurbishment of Point Lepreau Generating Station (PLGS) with AECL as the general contractor. AECL is committed to a fixed price and firm schedule for the retubing and refurbishment of the PLGS. AECL has been working closely with NB Power, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and its many project partners since 1999 to assess the plant’s condition, develop a comprehensive integrated project plan and schedule and complete the scope and budget for the project.

In December 2005, AECL signed a lease for the Saint John Project Office with warehouse and assembly facilities. Project office staff are already starting to move into the facility. A project kick off meeting was held with the business agents of the Saint John Area Building Trade Unions, to begin an ongoing dialogue that will continue for the life of the Refurbishment Project.
