Biographical note

Paul de Swart

Paul de Swart was appointed Senior Regional Representative (Currency) at the Bank's Regional Office for Ontario in 2004. In this capacity, he ensures delivery of the Bank's currency education program and monitors developments related to currency and its security in the region. In co-operation with private sector partners, he is responsible for overseeing and monitoring the bank note distribution system. He also plays a major role in promoting the Bank and communicating its messages to a variety of external audiences.

Mr. de Swart joined the Bank of Canada as an Analyst in 1998. He most recently held the position of Assistant Director, Currency Production, in the Department of Banking Operations at the Bank's head office in Ottawa. In this capacity, Mr. de Swart was responsible for ensuring sufficient bank notes were produced to meet demand by Canadians, and for maintaining quality control. Prior to joining the Bank of Canada, Mr. de Swart worked for Scotiabank.

Mr. de Swart was born in Toronto, Ontario, and earned a bachelor's degree in Economics from York University in 1990. Mr. de Swart also has extensive high-tech training and experience in the areas of telecommunications and systems development.
