About the Bank

Biographical note

Sheila Niven

Ms. Niven was appointed Chief of the Bank's Corporate Services Department in October 2003. In this capacity, she is responsible for the Bank's Human Resources, Information Management, Information Technology, Security, and Facilities Management functions. Ms. Niven is also a member of the Bank's Executive Management Committee.

Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Ms. Niven studied Economics and Psychology at the University of Natal, South Africa, receiving a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in 1976. While on a Rhodes Scholarship at Oxford University, she graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Politics and Economics in 1979, followed by an M.A. She also received a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in 1980.

Ms. Niven joined the Bank in 1987 as a Special Projects Analyst in the Personnel Department, and in subsequent years assumed positions of increasing responsibility. In 1991, she was appointed Senior Consultant in the Office of the Director of Administration and became its Manager in 1992. In 1996, Ms. Niven became Assistant Chief, Financial Services, in the Management Services Department, and in 1999 was appointed Adviser, Financial Management. Ms. Niven was appointed Deputy Chief of the International Department in 2000.
