The Cadet Harassment and Abuse Prevention Program (CHAP) is mandatory for all cadets. It provides cadets and their leaders with an awareness of both their rights and their responsibilities in regards to harassment and abuse. They learn to recognize inappropriate kinds of behaviour and become aware of what action should be taken in the event of an incident. CHAP addresses current issues and ensures that Cadets Canada remains cutting-edge in terms of providing a safe and healthy environment in which young people can develop as strong and effective citizens of Canada.

Through CHAP cadets are equipped with important knowledge that they can incorporate into all facets of their lives. Being able to recognize inappropriate behaviour and knowing what to do about it helps cadets take on a leadership role wherever youth gather – in a classroom, on the sports field or at a party with their friends.

This training became mandatory in June 1999 for all cadets, instructors and volunteers.
