Artist Profiles and Success Stories

In 2002-03, the Canada Council for the Arts supported Trinity Bay’s Rising Tide Theatre with a $132,000 operating grant. Council funds make a important contribution to the Rising Tide Theatre’s over-all costs as the location of Trinity Bay, NF, has limited artistic resources and a small population base. Rising Tide “has explored current and controversial issues on stage, rejuvenated and modernized classics, and created plays which seek to portray the culture and character of Newfoundland and Labrador.” It has been active in the environmental education of youths by commissioning the play “The Land That Clean Forgot.” Rising Tide puts on an annual Pageant of plays, and re-enacts the cultural history of Newfoundland through the work of local playwrights.
