Header: Operation 'Iseine Muck'

Picture: Stuck! Operation Inseine Muck saw the hardworking Air Cadets of 176 braving the jungle-like environment along the Seine River. The temperature reached a sweaty 27 degrees. The mosquitos were "inseine"! These conditions stayed consistent throughout the day. The Cadets wore short and long clothing as well as lots of sunscreen and bug spray. Some even braved the conditions in sandals!

Throughout the morning many shopping carts were expertly and quickly removed from the river. Some furniture was removed as well, including mattresses and chairs. One special task started with the attempted removal of a bike wheel. When it would not pull from the water, it was discovered that it was still attached to the bike! The bike had sunk under the water and was embedded deep into the river bed muck. After much digging and pulling the bike was finally freed.

Cadets clad with work gloves scoured through the heavy vegetation all day long finding and removing various forms of garbage. Placing it into garbage bags, the Cadets were filling the bags at an incredible rate! Amongst the litter removed were plastic, glass and metal containers, newspapers, hair brushes, a suitcase, diapers, and many unrecognizable items.

A major item that was removed was a couch that looked to have been there for many years. It was found on the shore close to the water and was surrounded by heavy overgrowth. Piece by rotting piece the couch was brought up off the bank and deposited along with all the brimming garbage bags into large waste bins. The skill of search and removal displayed by these Cadets was nothing short of excellent!

In reward for their volunteer efforts the Cadets were given hats, water bottles and T-shirts all in promotion of Cadets Caring for Canada.
