What is a gas token?

Gas tokens were "giveaways" offered by Shell Oil Company service stations to thank their customers. This type of promotion was used in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The company issued two series. One featured each province and showed its floral emblem and date of entry into Confederation. The other depicted former prime ministers of Canada.

Given the quality of the metal and the large number of these tokens on the market, their value today is very low.
