CCOHS Invites Entries for Third Annual Dick Martin Scholarship Award

HAMILTON, ON (October 20, 2004) - The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is calling for entries for the 2004-05 Dick Martin Scholarship Award. This annual, national award is available to students enrolled in an occupational health and safety course or programme in an accredited college or university in Canada, leading to an occupational health and safety certificate, diploma or degree.

Established in 2002 by the CCOHS Council of Governors, The Dick Martin Scholarship Award was created in recognition of Mr. Martin's valuable contribution to CCOHS as one of its governors; his powerful voice for the rights of workers; his commitment to securing justice for working men and women; and, promoting action to protect people's environments inside and outside the workplace.

This year three, $1000 scholarships will be awarded. To apply for the award, post secondary students are invited to submit a 1000-1500 word essay on a topic that best describes their aspirations in the field of occupational health and safety. Entries will be judged on their knowledge of the subject matter, their understanding of the principles and values of Dick Martin, and their understanding of the role of CCOHS.

Entry deadline for the Dick Martin Scholarship Award is January 31, 2005.

More information about Dick Martin as well as full details about the Dick Martin Scholarship Award including the application form are available on the CCOHS Web site, http://www.ccohs.ca/scholarship/entries.
