CCOHS Helps Make Job Safety Analysis Simple With New Publication

HAMILTON, August 21, 2003 – The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) announced the release of a new report, Job Safety Analysis Made Simple, as a practical tool to help people identify workplace hazards and develop safe work practices to prevent injuries and illnesses and other losses.

Employers are responsible for assessing the health and safety risk of a job and ensuring safety measures are in place to eliminate any risk to their employees. The Job Safety Analysis Made Simple publication introduces the concept of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and outlines two practical methods of identifying potential hazards – Change Analysis and the Energy Barrier Approach. The JSA discusses the strengths and application of each method, as well as providing lengthy tips and commentary to help develop safe work practices to prevent injuries and illnesses in the workplace.

The straight forward, 36 page report is chock full of sample worksheets, forms and processes as well as step-by-step instructions that clearly guide the reader through the development of a job safety analysis process customized to their particular workplace.

This publication is intended for workers, managers, supervisors, health and safety committee members and health and safety representatives and is written in language suitable for those familiar with the workplace, but who are not necessarily health and safety experts.

Job Safety Analysis Made Simple is a joint production of CCOHS and Human Resources Development Canada, Labour Program and is available in either English or French for $15 plus shipping and handling. To order call CCOHS Client Services at: 905.570.8094 or toll free: 1.800.668.4284."
