A Win for Occupational Health and Safety

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has been awarded 3rd place in Compliance Magazine's "Best of the Web Safety Award” contest. The award recognizes efforts by safety companies to develop safety content, training, organization, and e-commerce in web design. CCOHS will accept this award at the American Industrial Hygiene Conference taking place June 4-6, 2001 in New Orleans. CCOHS continues to provide reliable, up-to-date health and safety information, products and services to help prevent workplace injuries.

CCOHS' OSH Answers, a previous Web award winner, is just one of many key services available on CCOHS' website. OSH Answers is designed to answer thousands of the most frequently asked questions about occupational health and safety in a practical and easy-to-understand style. In the last year, the OSH Answers section, along with the French version, Réponses SST, on CCOHS' website, http://www.ccohs.ca , served up over 1,500,000 pages of occupational health and safety information to more than 450,000 unique visitors.

CCOHS is a non-profit organization established in 1980 by the Federal Ministry of Labour. The Centre is Canada's national centre for occupational safety and health (OSH) information. It also focuses on the environment and health and safety initiatives by collecting, evaluating and distributing information on workplace health, safety, and environmental issues from sources around the world. Recognized internationally as an innovative and expert resource, CCOHS is governed by a tripartite Council with representatives from employers, labour and government, and as such is committed to providing impartial and accurate information to all its clients.

The organization's mandate is to promote health and safety in the workplace and encourage the application of knowledge and methods that will lead to improved physical and mental health for workplace participants. Through its products and services, CCOHS helps to foster improvements in today's workplace in the areas of Workplace Health, Ergonomics, Job Design and safe chemical handling. CCOHS is dedicated to being the global innovator and expert in making the workplace a healthy and safe environment.

Len Hong, President and CEO of CCOHS said

"Winning this award makes me very proud. It shows how our efforts have contributed towards helping to reduce workplace illnesses and injuries throughout workplaces in the world." He continues with "This award is given to organizations who have made a difference, and who are dedicated to a great vision...a vision of making our world a safe place to work. I am pleased that we are recognized as such an organization, and we will continue to do our very best to make everyone safe from workplace illnesses and injuries."
