Award
Three awards of $3000 are presented annually.
Eligibility
Any student enrolled, either full-time or part-time, in an Occupational Health and Safety related course or program at an accredited college or university in Canada leading to an OH&S; certificate, diploma or degree. Programs include mine safety, occupational or industrial health and safety, industrial hygiene, safety management or other related safety degree program.
Application
All applications must include a completed application form and will be evaluated on the basis of an essay submission.
Essay Topic
Choose a topic that best fits your aspirations in the field of OH&S.

Guidelines
  1. Essays are to be a minimum of 1000 words to a maximum of 1,500 words.
  2. The document must be word processed in a 12-point font, double-spaced.
  3. Pages must be numbered.
  4. Essays must include a bibliography.
  5. Applicant's name must not appear on any page of the essay.
  6. Information resources for writing the essay can be found at www.ccohs.ca.
  7. One essay submission only per applicant.
Ownership
All essays submitted become the property of CCOHS. Successful essays will be published by CCOHS and may be, along with information about the winners, shared widely through our web site, government agencies, and media.
Criteria
A Selection Committee will score the essays using the following criteria:
  • Knowledge of subject matter
  • Understanding of the principles and values of Dick Martin
  • Understanding of the role of CCOHS
  • Clarity of ideas presented
  • Overall presentation, organization, grammar and spelling
  to the top
Submission
The application form and essay must be submitted together, either electronically using the on-line application form, by e-mail to scholarship@ccohs.ca or by mail or fax to:

Deadline
Essays are to be received no later than 5:00 pm on January 31 (of each year). Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
Notification
All applicants will be notified of the Selection Committee's decision.
Administration
The Dick Martin Scholarship Award program is administered by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety.
