RCSU(A) - Sea Cadets

Introduction

Young people, between the ages of 12 and 18, who have an interest in seamanship need look no farther. Sea Cadets provides opportunities that no other youth group offers in more than 70 Sea Cadet Corps in communities across the Atlantic Provinces.

Sea Cadets train one night each with some weekend activities. Young people who join Sea Cadets will learn seamanship, from tying knots to sailing a whaler through the waves, navigation, powerboat operation, lookout duties, small boat sailing, marksmanship, drill and adventure training.

To The Top

Cadets also have the opportunity to take part in optional training in areas such as music and biathlon. Top Cadets may be chosen to sail on Tall Ships and participate in international exchanges that take place throughout the year.

The highlight for many Cadets is the summer when they are able to take part in summer training at one of the six summer training centers across the country. In Atlantic Region, HMCS ACADIA is located in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia and HMCS AVALON is located in St John’s, Newfoundland. Courses offered include: General Military Training (GMT), Gunnery, Music Boatswain and Sail. Perhaps the best thing about being an air cadet is that you get to meet new people, make new friends while learning to become more self-reliant and a better citizen.
