BDC employees are proud to work for one of Canada's Top 100 employers

The financial institution also part of Top 10 Montreal Employers

Montreal, October 10, 2006 – BDC is proud to announce that it ranks amongst Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2007, an annual competition which recognizes employers with outstanding workplace environments, organized by Mediacorp Canada Inc.  In addition, BDC was acknowledged as one of the Top 10 Employers in Montreal for 2007.  Canada's Top 100 Employers for 2007 logo

BDC was selected from a group of over 1,500 employers that began the Top 100 application process this year.  The recruitment history of over 60,000 employers across Canada were reviewed – and more than 10,000 employers across the nation were invited to apply.

"BDC listens to its employees and takes action to meet their evolving needs. Our approach clearly works as we are today recognized as one of Canada's top places to work," said Jean-René Halde, BDC's President and CEO. "This recognition confirms what our people have been telling us through engagement and internal satisfaction surveys:  our employees are proud of BDC's mission to support SMEs and they are happy to work here," he added.

BDC offers a stimulating work environment where new employees see their leadership recognized and are given important responsibilities, often early in their careers. Diversity is a priority, with a special committee reporting directly to the President and CEO, while work/life balance practices are implemented regularly across BDC's 90-plus branches.

Chanelle Robertson, a 30-year-old employee from Calgary, Alberta, agrees: "When I first applied for a job at BDC, I asked if I could be given flexible hours to train on a regular basis. The answer was yes, and I was very impressed that an employer would be so supportive," she says. At the time, the account manager was in training for the Canadian Women's Olympic bobsleigh team, working to win a spot to compete in the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

"To me, BDC is one of the country's best employers because it listens to my needs:  I get to pursue my love of sport while having a rewarding career," says Robertson. "Supporting diversity doesn't always have to do with cultural differences; in my case, it means allowing me to succeed outside of the office too."
