Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power has announced its intent to proceed with the retubing of the Wolsong 1 Unit in 2009/2010. The CANDU plants operated by KHNP are excellent performers – all four Wolsong Units are among the country’s best performing nuclear plants. Wolsong 4 is Korea’s best performing nuclear unit on a lifetime basis, and the best performing CANDU plant is the world. Because of the excellent operating history and higher than expected capacity factors, KHNP is now considering extending the operation of Wolsong 1 for a further 25 years. AECL anticipates that the Retubing Project will start in 2009.
