The New Brunswick Health, Education and Enforcement in Partnership (HEP) Coordinator is co-sponsored by the Department of Health and Wellness (DHW), Government of New Brunswick and the Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA).
The Department of Health and Wellness is committed to ensuring the well-being of New Brunswickers by promoting self-sufficiency and personal responsibility, and providing the necessary approved services. There are Regional Addiction Services in all health regions of New Brunswick. Program delivery varies among regions, but each region offers a range of programs. The Public/Mental Health and Medical Services Divisions of the Department of Health and Wellness are accountable for the management and delivery of a broad and diverse range of provincial programs and services; these include Medicare, Prescription Drug Program, Public Health, Community and Environmental Health, and Health Promotion and Disease Prevention.
New Brunswick has a very active Health, Education and Enforcement in Partnership (HEP) network. Committees can be found in the seven Health Regions across the province. The focus of HEP committees includes:
- Prevention of harm (youth and alcohol issues, abuse of prescription drugs, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder, methamphetamine, and clandestine labs where illicit drugs are produced)
- Supporting resiliency in individuals, families and the community through asset building (family dinner day; developmental assets research; knowledge building for front-line workers, parents and educators; social inclusion; resiliency campaign)
- Involving youth in experiential learning (wellness rally, PARTY program, maze, interactive games
- Interventions (Drug treatment court and FASD Resource Centre)
