Baggages entitlements and restrictions

Entitlement for commercial, commercial charter and DND aircraft

Checked Baggage:

  • Total of two pieces of checked baggage will be accepted per passenger.
  • Combined weight not to exceed 23 kg (50 lb) for a cadet and 32 kg (70 lb) for staff and staff cadets.
  • Overall dimensions (length plus width plus height) must not exceed 157 cm (62 in.) for the first piece of baggage and 140 cm (55 in.) for the second piece of baggage.

Carry-on Baggage:

  • One piece of hand luggage may be carried on board the airplane provided that the dimensions do not exceed 46 cm by 41 cm by 18 cm (18 in. by 16 in. by 7 in.).
  • Clothing bags or suit carriers are not authorized in cabin of CC 150 Airbus.

Exceptionally, cadets will be allowed full baggage entitlement of 2 pieces at 32 kg each (70 lb) for a total of 64 kg (140 lb). This is the case for international exchanges. Such exceptions will be identified in the joining instructions sent to the cadets for the particular event or activity.

Excess baggage

Regional cadet movement officers may authorize excess baggage when air travel is enitrely by commercial carrier. This will be the exception and not the norm.

There is no entitlement for excess baggage on DND airlift or on commercial charters.

Restrictions

The carrier will accept for transportation as baggage such personal property as is necessary for the wear, use, comfort or convenience of the passenger for the purpose of the trip, subject to the following conditions:

  • Baggage must be externally identified and packed in suitcases or in similar containers in order to ensure safe and convenient carriage with ordinary care and handling.
  • Fragile items (e.g. cameras) or perishable articles, money, jewellery, silverware, alcohol, business documents shall be accepted as checked baggage. The carrier shall not be liable for loss, damage or delay in the delivery of any such articles where they are included in checked baggage without the knowledge of the carrier.
  • Carry-on baggage must be convenient to stow in the passenger compartment of the aircraft and is not otherwise offensive or objectionable to any other passenger.
  • Baggage shall not be carried when such baggage is likely to endanger airplane, persons or property, or is likely to be damaged by air carriage or is unsuitably tagged, or if the carriage would violate the laws, regulations or orders of countries to be flown from, into or over.

Additionally, carriers may restrict the weight, size and character of baggage and may refuse to carry baggage with certain articles unless prior arrangements have been made with the carrier. These articles are:

  • fire arms
  • explosives, ammunition, corrosives, flammable or otherwise dangerous materials (e.g. compressed hexamine type 1 UN 1328)
  • electronic or motorized equipment
  • musical instruments
  • objects of art
  • live animals
  • perishable items

Make sure electronic devices such as cell phones, laptop computers and portable or electronics games are charged and ready to be turned on for inspection.
