Address Management Tools
- Addressing tools to suit the needs of your business

Address Improvement Program

Addressing drives everything we do at Canada Post. Managing addresses is one of our core competencies. The new Address Improvement Program is Canada Post's initiative to improve the address information provided to customers.

Postal Code Products

All data products are available on CD-ROM or by download from our FTP site. Non-mailing uses of Canada Post's data products are also permitted under specific terms and conditions. If you are interested in receiving further information regarding the postal code data products please email us your telephone number and email address or call us at 1 800 363-3459.

Amalgamation Data Product

The Amalgamation Data Product offers mailers the new addresses for municipalities amalgamating. The data cross references the old and new addresses, so that mailers will be able to use this information to update their mailing lists.

Householder Counts and Maps

Canada Post's Householder Counts and Maps can help Direct Marketers to target their audiences and prepare their direct marketing pieces by providing information on the counts of houses, apartments, farms and businesses throughout Canada, as well as associated maps.

Canadian Addressing Guide

The Canadian Addressing Guide promotes the most technologically efficient formats for addressing. It does not limit mailers to any one format. In some cases, because of individual preference or other considerations, mailers may not be able to follow the formats that this Guide presents. CPC encourages all mailers to respect the wishes of customers in matters of format.

Address Accuracy Program

This guide identifies the requirements of the Address Accuracy Program. An address is the information required to identify the specific location of a residence/business and/or the destination where a recipient receives mail. An address is deemed accurate when all components are present, correct and match information on Canada Post's database.

Recognized Addressing Software

To determine their Address Accuracy percentage, customers must compare their database(s) against Canada Post's address data by using Canada Post recognized software. There are a number of Address Validation, and Address Validation and Correction software packages available to help customers achieve maximum efficiency in their mailings.

Recognized Presortation and Bar Code Recognition Software

This program evaluates and recognizes presortation and bar code recognition software products manufactured by developers and mailers. SERP(Software Evaluation and Recognition Program) evaluates and recognizes a software package for its ability to meet Canada Post Corporation's Presortation Technical Specifications. The program does not evaluate any subjective criteria such as speed of operation, user friendliness, or customer support.

Canada Post 4-State Bar Code

Bar coding is an essential component of Canada Post's investment in new mail processing technology which will mean lower postage prices for customers and a more efficient delivery service. Additional benefits include:

  • more efficient management of your customer databases, which will save you time and money;
  • more flexible address design and layout;
  • faster processing and more accurate delivery of your mail;
  • intelligent campaign measurement;
  • savings achieved by a reduction in inaccurately addressed or duplicated mail.

National Change of Address (NCOA)

Canada Post's National Change of Address (NCOA) Service makes it possible for businesses to improve the accuracy of their mailing lists. This translates into savings in redirection costs on mailed items and better response rates on direct marketing campaigns.
