Neskonlith, Adams Lake and Little Shuswap Bands [Neskonlith Reserve]
In September 2003, the Commission accepted the request of these First Nations to conduct an inquiry into their rejected specific claim to a reserve they say was validly established under the authority of Governor James Douglas, of the Colony of British Columbia, in 1862 and later unlawfully reduced. The First Nations’ documents were received by the Commission in July 2004 and Canada’s documents in September. A planning conference was held in November 2004. A community session was conducted in July 2005. There are outstanding evidentiary issues in this inquiry. An expert session has been tentatively scheduled for spring 2006. |
