CWB announces 2007-08 identity preserved contract program

WinnipegThe Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) today announced its 2007-08 Identity Preserved Contract Program (IPCP) for wheat and durum. The IPCP offers farmers incentives for growing new varieties that the CWB test-markets in Canada and internationally, or uses to supply buyers with specific milling and end-use needs.

“Farmers entering into IPCP contracts can receive premiums of up to $10 per tonne while helping to increase the potential market for high-quality western Canadian grains,” said Earl Geddes, CWB vice-president of Product Development and Marketing Support. “Our customers have specific needs. They depend on us to supply the high-quality varieties that meet their needs, and the IPCP enables us to do that.”

Farmer incentives vary by program. They may include guaranteed acceptance and delivery within the crop year of all production that qualifies for the program, escalating on-farm storage payments, and contract premiums.

Varieties eligible for the 2007-08 CWB IPCP are:

IPCP sign-up forms will be available through designated elevators or by calling the CWB at 1-800-275-4292. More contract details may be found at www.cwb.ca.

Controlled by western Canadian farmers, the CWB is the largest wheat and barley marketer in the world.   As one of Canada’s biggest exporters, the Winnipeg-based company sells grain to more than 70 countries and returns all sales revenue, less marketing costs, to Prairie farmers.
